Completed in 2021 Reel Cinema in Blackburn was a flagship building in the heart of Blackburn town centre. As part of a £6.5million project, the 8 screen cinema complex incorporating an entertainment area with refreshments and arcade games was built. The cinema was created alongside an additional £3.5million underground car park and public realm outdoor space to connect the Northgate/King George’s Hall/Blackburn College area of town.
In partnership with Shield Facades, Strongdor supplied 18 Steel doors, in a range of styles for the project to meet the detailed specification of contractors, Barnfield Construction.
Each cinema screen required high-security SR2 doors which were each Acoustic rated to 45Db with panic exit hardware, to act as a means of escape from the building. All finished in an in-keeping brown coloured powder-coated durable coating.
Doors were also required for access to utility cupboards including electrical, gas and bin stores. These doors needed to be fire-rated and also included a number of louvred panels to assist with airflow and ventilation.
Alongside the outer perimeter of the building and the underground car park entrances, a number of glazing panels were required to provide light into the building and meet Part M directive. A letterbox was even required in one of the doors to ensure security was maintained without losing the functionality of everyday access for postal services.
Shield Facade entered into a full tender process for the project and worked closely with Strongdor to meet the customer expectations and to deliver the customised steel door requirements, on time and within budget.
Managing Director Andy Sheil explains how he found working on the project, “The most important part of this project was to meet the required specification in the required time, working in collaboration with Strongdor we were able to offer the client everything they wanted, and in the timeframe they wanted."
