Strongdor has recently been awarded its first Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for its standard steel personnel door-sets. This milestone underscores the company's commitment to environmental sustainability. To help both staff and customers better understand the significance of this achievement, SHEQ Manager Pam Irvine provides a brief guide on the topic and its implications for Strongdor.
What does EPD stand for?
An EPD is an environmental product declaration, that transparently communicates the environmental performance of a product over its lifetime.
Why would a company get an EPD?
As a company, we felt it was important to produce EPD’s as there is a lack of awareness around environmental impacts of products within the industry.
How do you acquire an EPD?
So, the first step in getting an EPD is to produce a lifecycle assessment of the product from cradle to grave. We then use a specialist software system to present this information in a more user-friendly format.
How reliable is an EPD?
The EPD is verified by a third party, published, and it's now available on our website for all our customers to see. Providing EPD’s delivers verified and trustworthy data on our products environmental impacts. This is the first step in our mission to becoming a more transparent and sustainable company.
