Established in 1982, Wirral Metropolitan College was founded on a vision to enhance the economic prosperity of young people, adults and employers through the delivery of high quality, work-related education and training. Currently, the college consists of four unique campus settings, but a fifth is under way. The new site will be dedicated to Professional Studies and Leadership Development and is due to open in September 2021.
The College has recently benefited from a £6 million refurbishment programme to improve both the quality and aesthetic of the campuses, an investment that represents significant progress toward their aim to be an inclusive, outstanding college. One of the beneficiaries of this investment was the vibrant orange Twelve Quays Campus.
Situated just off the M53, a few minutes from Woodside Ferry Terminal and Birkenhead Hamilton Square train station. The Twelve Quays site contains facilities that focus on specialities that include science, technology and engineering, and it is also home to a maths (STEM) centre. The facility is complete with the latest digital technology, engineering workshops and laboratories.
Strongdor worked very closely with JPF Systems on the project. The locally based commercial building specialists were contracted to supply and install 17 replacement steel doors for the Twelve Quays Campus. With historically high levels of traffic, the college had a requirement for hard wearing door-sets, that offered sufficient security and resilience to withstand the rigours of this busy campus.
Throughout the build, the Steeldor range was put to good effect on both internal and external entrances. These bespoke steel door-sets included features such as single and double leaves, louvre panels and fire escapes, also offered the superior quality associated with a British manufacturer, along with the convenience of an easy to fit frame.
Whilst history and heritage are a source of pride for Wirral Metropolitan College, as the largest college on the Wirral, they also know that they need to shape the kind of facilities and security that the future demands. This investment, and these steel doors, will go a good way to securing that future.
